This perennial is a native of North America and has strong, sweet-scented foliage that can be used in fruit salads, desserts and either fresh or dried for brewing an aromatic tea.

From early summer the flower spikes, covered with small lavender double-lobed blossoms, produce copious nectar eagerly sought by bees, yielding a light honey.

Grows in full sun or light shade.
